A BLUE MASS is a mass celebrated annually throughout the United States in the Catholic Church for those employed in the “public service field.” The color blue relates to the blue-colored uniforms predominately used by these services.
The General de Lafayette Assembly 249 of the Knights of Columbus are sponsoring this year’s mass to be held THURSDAY, September 15, 5:15pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1207 Columbia Street, Lafayette.
All those in the public service field are invited to attend along with their families. Organizations that will be represented include: Lafayette Fire Department, West Lafayette Fire Department, Various Township Fire Departments, Purdue Fire Department, Monticello Fire Department, Lafayette Police Department, West Lafayette Police Department, Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Purdue Police Department, Monticello Police Department, all EMS personnel, all dispatchers, Tippecanoe Emergency Management along with several Honor Guard contingents.
Bishop Doherty will be the celebrate with readings by Mayor Tony Roswarski and Mayor John Dennis.
Those attending are asked to wear the uniform of their service.
